Smallest Art Gallery in Portugal

The iconic pay point of the defunct petrol station  is now (arguably) the smallest art gallery in Portugal, at Ponte d'Arte.

You will find it in Ponte da Mucela, along the Estrada de Beira (N17), where it served the transport industry on the road to Spain, until it closed in 2003.

Gallery hours are unlimited.

Exhibition 2015 - 2019

This burnt hollow tree stump found in the forest is part of the installation artwork currently on show.  The burnt wood collected by Greek artist Christos Papasotiriou in 2015 strangely anticipates the devastating fires of 2017.  Fire, coal and fuel are closely related, making the fuel pay station a rich site to house this work.
